Over 77 years ago a young girl from Nylstroom wrote a letter to a journalist from a popular Afrikaans newspaper of the time called “Die Vaderland”. The girl stated that her wish was to donate all of her pocket money to help under privileged children and to buy them gifts for Christmas. The journalist read her letter and helped the little girl achieve her dream. The journalist then wanted to create something bigger from this... and help even more children in the process. So after some intense planning they created Kinderstrand in the year 1938 as a place where under privileged children could come and make their dreams come true.
Since then Kinderstrand has successfully provided these services for children in need. Giving them wonderful adventures, which they would have never have been able to experience in their normal lives. Kinderstrand not only provide these adventures, but they also give these children great learning opportunities by teaching them about the natural environment and nature conservation.
